Patina Selection

This page will help you understand patina choices for bronze items (copper will be redder).
Click here for steel patina options.

ATTENTION:
Patination is a chemical reaction that takes place over time, and though it can be guided to some degree, the precise outcomes (color, density, and pattern) are dependant on many variables such as the temperature and humidity of the day.
When you look at a picture or I send you a sample, you must bear this in mind.

Standard Classic Patinas
The Classic finishes all exude the warm, worn feel of old bronze and range from golden highlights to dark browns. There is some control over the intensity of the Classic patina, so that you may specify Light Classic, Medium Classic, or Dark Classic.

· Medium Classic is typically shown and will be used unless otherwise specified. Each piece will have its own unique golden highlights, darker streaks, and texture.
· Light Classic is the lighter version of medium classic. As with Medium Classic, each piece will have its own unique golden highlights, darker streaks, and texture. This is NOT a bright, polished bronze, but plenty of the golden brilliance does come through.
· Dark Classic is a warm brown-black with some highlights coming through at the edges. It has the rich mottled look of very dark, worn leather.

The Classic patina choices are also for the copper items. Copper has a redder undertone than bronze. Standard Classic Patinas become Custom Patinas, if something more specific than these 3 choices is requested. A 10% surcharge with $250 minimum applies.

Verdigris Custom Patinas
Available on a custom basis are a range of blue-green or 'Verdigris' finishes - including Classic finishes with highlights of Verdigris. These finishes are specially developed for your project and can range from bright and sunny to dark and brooding. They can bend more toward an aqua blue or more toward an olive green. The Verdigris colors are rich and very natural looking.

Please call to discuss the custom options. A sample will be made for your approval during the building process. Once approved, the sample will give us something to aim for, but as noted at the top of the page, you must be open to an element of suprise. All custom finishes will incur a 10% surcharge (with a minimum of $250). The Verdigris options are not available on copper or brass plated items.

Protective Coatings
All finishes are protected with satin lacquer or hard wax. Further information on protective coatings and their indoor or outdoor application.
